Heavy Duty Stickers for Equipment
Thick plastic, a permanent adhesive and a 6-mil overlaminate, tested the way equipment gets used.
Heavy duty stickers for equipment have to survive what a standard sticker never sees: impact, abrasion, hydraulic fluid, diesel splash, UV and washdown. Ours are built in layers, and each layer has a job. A 12-mil plastic core resists impact and gouging, a 3.5-mil permanent adhesive bonds to powdercoat and textured plastic, and a 6-mil overlaminate seals the print. The result is a heavy duty label for equipment rated 5+ years outdoors.

What makes a sticker heavy duty
Thickness, adhesive and protection over the print. A standard sticker is a thin film with a general-purpose adhesive and ink on the surface. A heavy duty sticker changes all three:
- The core: 12-mil plastic on the Strongest tier, six times the thickness of a 2-mil polyester label. The thickness absorbs impact that destroys thinner labels.
- The adhesive: a 3.5-mil permanent adhesive rated for low-surface-energy surfaces like powdercoat, polyethylene and polypropylene. The photo above shows a Strongest tag holding a 25 lb weight plate by its adhesive alone.
- The overlaminate: a 6-mil textured layer over the print that resists UV, scraping, gouging and mild chemicals. The print sits underneath it, not on top.
- Take away any one of the three and the sticker fails in a predictable way: it tears, it peels, or it fades.
Heavy duty stickers vs standard stickers in the field
The difference shows up within months. Our Hall of Shame collects real failures we were asked to replace, and two of them are equipment stickers:
- Thin polyester labels on 200 pieces of construction equipment: half were unreadable by month six after direct sun and hydraulic-fluid splash.
- Labels with a standard acrylic adhesive on powdercoated oilfield assets: they fell off within 30 days.
- In both cases the Strongest tier replaced them, and the replacements were still working five years later.
Heavy duty labels for equipment that works outside
Outdoor equipment takes UV, rain, freeze-thaw cycles and temperature swings. The Strongest tier is rated 5+ years outdoors and -40°F to 250°F continuous service, and it is waterproof under standard industrial washdown. It is our recommendation for anything that lives in a yard, on a trailer or on a job site. Even equipment kept in covered storage or under the eaves of a building gets a Strongest recommendation from the spec builder.
For mobile equipment, our most punishing test put a Strongest-tier tag on the steel tread of a bulldozer, and it survived. See construction and heavy equipment for more on tagging a fleet.
Chemicals, fluids and cleaning
The overlaminate is what keeps heavy duty stickers readable around fluids. It is rated against hydrocarbon vapor, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol and quaternary-ammonium disinfectants, and it resists mild chemical splash.
On production equipment, Strongest-tier labels survive parts-washer cycles below 180°F with a standard industrial degreaser. Sustained submersion in stronger solvents, continuous heat above 250°F and direct flame will defeat any printed label, so keep stickers out of those zones.
How to test heavy duty stickers yourself
Do not take a durability rating on faith, ours included. Order samples and we send all three tiers in several sizes, with an instruction card for surface prep. Then try to break them:
- Pull on a corner and try to peel it off.
- Scrape it with a fingernail, a key, or whatever usually hits that surface.
- Wash it with the cleaner or degreaser your team uses on the equipment.
- Scan it with the scanner or phone your team will actually use.
- Leave one in the harshest spot you have and check it again later.
Sizes, codes and branding
Heavy duty stickers can be any size and shape, die-cut with no die charge, from 0.25-inch micro-tags to large plates. Each one can carry a barcode, a QR code, a serial number and your logo, and the logo prints in full color at no charge.
For a code that has to survive abrasion, use Data Matrix: its error correction reads through partial damage where a 1D barcode fails. The spec builder picks the tier and prices the order in four questions, and our heavy-duty equipment labels page covers adhesion on specific equipment finishes.
Where heavy duty stickers last longest
Even the toughest sticker lasts longer in the right spot. On heavy equipment, a few placement rules help:
- Use the operator-station access panel rather than the chassis exterior, so audits do not require climbing.
- Choose a flat surface over a curved one, away from hydraulic-fluid splash zones.
- Stickers that sit above the operator's eye line during cab entry survive longest, because they get checked often.
- Clean the spot with a hot solvent like lacquer thinner and let it dry. Our permanent adhesive bonds reliably down to a -10°F install temperature, so cold mornings on site are not a problem.

FAQ: Heavy duty stickers
What is the most durable sticker for equipment?
Our Strongest tier: 12-mil plastic, a 3.5-mil permanent adhesive and a 6-mil overlaminate, rated 5+ years outdoors. It has been field tested on the steel tread of a bulldozer.
Are heavy duty stickers waterproof?
Yes. Stronger and Strongest stickers are waterproof under standard industrial washdown, with the print sealed under an overlaminate.
Do heavy duty labels for equipment come off in heat?
Stronger and Strongest tiers are rated for continuous service from -40°F to 250°F. Above that, or near direct flame, no printed label is the right choice.
What is the minimum order for heavy duty stickers?
100 stickers on the Strongest tier. The table on this page shows prices from 100 to 1,000, and quantity pricing continues to 5,000.
