What you can customize on an asset tag

Almost everything on the tag is yours to set. The one fixed choice is the construction, and the spec builder picks that for you in four questions.

• Text: a Property Of line, your organization name, a department, a phone number or a short instruction. Custom text is free.
• Logo: full color on the Stronger and Strongest tiers, at no charge. The Strong tier prints in one color and does not carry a logo.
• Colors: 16 ready-made color combinations or a custom color wheel in the designer. Colored backgrounds print on the Stronger and Strongest tiers, and the Strong tier is a white or silver background.
• Code: Code 128, Code 39, UPC, EAN, ITF, GS1, QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec or MaxiCode, or no code at all.
• Numbers: a sequence from any starting number, a prefix, a multi-segment number, or your own list from a spreadsheet. Numbering is free.
• Size and shape: round, oval, rectangle, slotted, dog-bone or a custom outline, die-cut with no die charge.
• Material: Strong, Stronger or Strongest, each available in tamper-evident material.

Custom asset tag templates in the online designer

The fastest way to a custom asset tag is the tag designer, and it works in three steps. First, pick one of 11 layouts: six for barcodes and serial numbers, three for QR codes and two with text only. Second, customize it: double-click the text on the tag to change the words, upload your logo as a PNG, SVG or JPG file, and set a barcode or QR code with a starting number. Third, choose your tier, size and quantity, and order.

The designer offers three standard sizes, 0.75 x 1.5 inch, 0.75 x 2 inch and 1 x 2 inch, each horizontal or vertical. Have a spreadsheet of serial numbers or URLs? Upload it as a CSV or Excel file and each tag prints its own value. The proof of your design travels with your order.

Custom sizes, shapes and formats by quote

Anything outside the designer's standard sizes is priced by quote rather than added to the cart automatically, so you get a real price for the real tag. The same goes for orders above 5,000 tags, metal-look asset tags and 3D nameplates. Send the size, shape, quantity and artwork through the quote form and the quote comes back within one to two business days.

If you would rather not lay out the tag yourself, we design it for free and you pay only for production. Send any reasonable artwork file, vector preferred, and we optimize it for the tag size.

Choosing the construction for a custom asset tag

Custom artwork does not make a tag last. The material, the adhesive and the protection over the print do. Match the tier to the worst day the tag will see:

• Strong: 2-mil polyester with thermal-transfer print fused into the material. For smooth indoor surfaces like office IT and lab equipment. Rated 2 years outdoors, with a 500-tag minimum.
• Stronger: 5-mil vinyl with full-color print under a 3-mil clear overlaminate. For smooth surfaces indoors or out, rated 2 to 5 years outdoors, with a 100-tag minimum.
• Strongest: 12-mil plastic, a 3.5-mil permanent adhesive and a 6-mil overlaminate. Bonds to powdercoat and textured plastic, rated 5+ years outdoors, with a 100-tag minimum.

How ordering custom asset tags works

Prices are published. The price table on this page shows quantities from 100 to 1,000 tags, and quantity breaks continue to 5,000. From there the order runs the same way every time:

• Design the tag in the designer, or send us your artwork and we lay it out.
• We send a digital proof for your approval within one business day.
• You approve the proof and production starts. Standard production is 5 business days after artwork approval, and rush production is available.
• Tags ship from central Florida. Shipping is $10 flat to the United States, Canada and Mexico, and quoted for other countries.

Paying for a custom asset tag order

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, plus ACH and wire transfer. Government and enterprise purchase orders are accepted, and net-30 terms are available to qualified accounts. See payment methods and shipping for the details.

Every tag is made in the USA: printed, laminated and die-cut in central Florida, with no offshore production.

A sample pack is the cheapest insurance in any tag program. Order samples and we send all three tiers in several sizes, a line card of the most popular sizes, pricing for each tier and quantity, and an instruction card for surface prep. Samples ship within one business day.

Put them on the real asset. Pull a corner, scrape the face, wipe it with the cleaner your team uses, and scan it with the phone or scanner you will actually use. Our tags are on assets at NASA, the U.S. Navy, Planet Fitness, Chick-fil-A and Microsoft, and the samples we send are the actual material.
